retroSPECtive May

Hingucker

//May was an exciting month for me. Not because I’ve traveled a lot or have experienced so much, but because my husband S and I have opened our first HINGUCKER* – EYEWEAR CONCEPT STORE. A detailed post I will show you in the next few days. (*HINGUCKER is the German word for eye catcher)

The Eyewear Forum

//In the past two months I was able to do some great shootings for brands such as Portrait, Daniel Hechter, Coblens Eyewear, Eye Tec and many more in cooperation with „The Eyewear Forum*“. 20 shootings, 20 locations, 20 outfits and, above all, 20 different spectacles. In fact, this is a small Eyewear Blogger Paradise. However, this task has turned out to be a major challenge because of the weather situation in the past two months. Since the current weather is only the best, one or the other can’t remember the bad weather period. As you know, sunglasses and rain aren’t a good comibnation. Some of the shootings you’ve already seen, but I’m looking forward to show you more pictures. (The Eyewear Forum is an international Forum on Facebook with more than 10.000 members from the optical field.)

Independent Eyewear Day

Am 20. Mai fand der jährliche „Independent Eyewear Day“ statt.

Your passion, is my passion.

//On May 20th, the annual „Independent Eyewear Day“ took place. As in any industry, there are 2-3 big players who „dominate“ the market and take influence. It is important to give a voice to the smaller, independent spectacle labels. Brands such as Andy Wolf, Blackfin and Rolf Spectacles set new standards in design and/or material and make this industry as exciting as it is. These brands are full of „passion, heart & soul“ and their glasses reflect these feelings.

Spectr Issue 20 . Jenny from the blog

//Last year I told you already about my favorite Eyewear Magazine SPECTR. Gladly you can read it here again. At that time, you could read an interview with Stefan Dongus, Publisher & Editor of SPECTR – International Eyewear Magazine. It was incredible for me that I had the relatively spontaneous chance to be in front of his lens to take some photos of me. The result = BAM. For me, he is a true artist and master of his craft and his photography is breathtaking. When I now held the 20th edition of SPECTR in my hands and was able to discover me by browsing, this was more than fantastic. With great words written by Astrid Spiering, the photos were perfectly framed. And since I really have an incredible joy with this site, I would like to present it to you as well.

Spectacular SPECTR Magazine

// For English please scroll down

Was reizt Dich daran, Brillen zu fotografieren?

(lacht)

// ENGLISH

InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar or the Vogue probably know quite a lot of you. What these magazines are for all fashion lovers is SPECTR for all people who are „Eyewear Addicted“. SPECTR is already pretty long in my repertoire of magazines. I love the layout (especially since their redesign), I like the appealing stories about the brands and people behind it and my personal highlight are the own photo story in the magazine, in which I have often discovered a new spectacle model for me. That’s exactly why I would like to tell you more about SPECTR and therefore I asked Stefan Dongus, Publisher & Editor of SPECTR, for an interview.

How often does SPECTR appear?

The print magazine is published three times a year in German and in English – occasionally also in another languages. For the September issue, for example, the Silmo also had a French version. We have strengthened the online area because we are active there every day and in the future we want to make more available specifically for online content.

Why did you decide to rename EYEWEAR to SPECTR?

EYEWEAR worked well for us at the beginning, but with time I became unhappy with the name. There were several reasons for this. On the one hand, EYEWEAR means nothing but „glasses“, but from the very first day we saw ourselves as a very fashionable magazine, because the brands we work with represent that too. EYEWEAR is a generic term, which creates a risk of confusion. When you asked: „Have you seen the new Eyewear Magazine?“; someone could answer: „What do you mean? There are several.“ The name was not clear enough, we wanted a sharper with high recognition. With SPECTR, we have found a name that combines our requirements and is derived from the term SPECTACLES. The name or logo can also be used graphically. So we have placed the logo on the current cover simply centrally.

There is hardly a product,
w
hich is so close and intimate
with the Human model like glasses.

Where is the magazine available?

SPECTR is available as a printmagazine in the German-speaking area at railway station and airport bookstores, as well as at many opticians and also at most international trade fairs. Passionate readers can also subscribe to the magazine, of course. Online, you can read the magazine for free, either on www.spectr-magazine.com, on issuu.com, or read-only about Readly.

Who is responsible for the content?

The magazine is produced in-house. Next to me are the Astrid and Caro, who work on the magazine. For the English edition, our American editor Dirk takes care of the translation. He also contributes a large portion of US content. Shootings now take place all over the world. We work together with renowned fashion and advertising photographers. I would say we are now relatively well networked.

What attracts you to photograph eyeglasses?

There is hardly a product that fuses so closely and intimately with the human model as the glasses. Although it is a small product, it has an enormous influence on the effect of a human being. The glasses have become very fashionable in recent years and it allows us to always show people in their entirety with their particular style. For us – that is not only for me, but also for the photographers who shoot for SPECTR is increasingly important that we meet a special visual language. We want to be modern, fashionable and courageous. It is the motto to prefer to be anecken than to be too ordinary. Still photography is a very different challenge. The aim is to present a product that supplies little material with stylistic appeal. Light is a big issue here, after all there is a lot of glass in glasses.

And maybe a short info about your own photo-story?

Which do you mean? We make permanent photos. If you mean the current in Berlin: This was a nice shoot with a super team. The special thing was that on the day with the three models we shot not only the 11 pages of the cover, but also the cover motifs with LINDBERG glasses. For each language there was a separate cover. In order for each reader to see all three images, we placed the two other motifs on a folding cover. For the shooting, we had such a great location with a 300 square meter apartment in Berlin at the Kurfürstendamm, that we stayed in Berlin for a whole week, where we also shot the photos with the new GÖTTI Collection and various portraits of eyeglasses. In general, I like to spend time in other places and then produce on site. Last month, for example, I was in Tokyo, where I portrayed Jean-Francois Rey – very exciting. And in December we go to Cape Town again for two productions.

A few lines about you would be great.

Oh God, what is there to say about me? I think I am innocent. (Laughs)

Stefan, thank you for this great and detailed interview. I am looking forward to the next issue of SPECTR with all your stories, brands and photos. It will definitely be spectacular again. Finally, there is now a pre-Christmas sweepstake for you. Together with SPECTR, I am running two editions of the current magazine.

All you have to do is:
