Light & Shadow

Overshadowed

Where light is you also find shadow. The shadow is a constant companion of us. Always there and yet not tangible. In general, everyone is seeking for light, for brightness, for the sun. Because we need the light to see, as well as the eyes and the brain – and some people also need glasses.

More than just „no light“

Light and shadow are inseparable. But it is the shadow that tells the stories. Who tells us from which perspective the light comes. Most people only partially perceive the alliance of light and the following shadows and the associated gradations. Most of us only know exactly what they see. For example, we see red glasses as red because they reflect red light while absorbing light of all other wavelengths. Artist has repeatedly presented the subject of light and shadow with challenges. Capturing, interpreting and representing the three-dimensionality of a body in the image requires on the one hand the ability of optical, real vision, on the other hand the ability to look closely – but as an optometrist you have little influence.

Every glasses wearer also has a spectacle shade in his face. Have you ever wondered what shadow casts the glasses on the customer’s face? Because this shadow is his constant companion. The shadow changes the face. But the eyeswear shadow leads a shadowy existence. And actually it should continue to be so.
